Job Description
Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Under direct supervision of Chief of Mission, in coordination with the Regional Media Communications Officer and Spokesperson in the Regional Office (RO) Vienna, the incumbent is responsible for media and public relations, internal and external communication activities and implementation of media and communication projects covering IOM activities in Ireland.

Responsibilities
1. Support liaison with media and national and international counterparts, civil society organizations, etc. in order to inform them on IOM’s activities and objectives and to increase the visibility of the Organization.
2. Supports the drafting and implementation of the communication strategy for the country office and identifies opportunities to implement new communication activities in order to promote IOM’s work, expertise, and capacity in Ireland.
3. Coordinates the online presence of IOM’s strategies and activities in Ireland and produces regular content for different social media platforms for Ireland, in line with the overall communication strategy.
4. Drafts press releases, feature stories or articles, and op-eds, and organizes media briefings in coordination with RO Vienna, HQ and other UN agencies as relevant to ongoing programming.
5. Regularly monitors media and informs the CoM, and HQ about communication issues and media reports on relevant developments and trends in the field of migration, suggest media or communications activities when needed, initiates and contributes to media lines to take, and prepares regular briefing materials.
6. Maintains an effective working relationship with key media representatives and press offices of partners and keeps an updated database of all partners in Ireland. Acts as media focal point for IOM Ireland, answers press requests and facilitates media interviews, in coordination with the CoM and other relevant colleagues in RO Vienna and HQ.
7. In coordination with relevant colleagues in the country office, organizes the preparation of information and outreach materials for external communications as well as the distribution of strategic organizational and project-related materials, publications, and reports to relevant stakeholders.
8. Ensures that media and communication activities are included in project activities and budgets, in line with IOM and donor priorities and requirements.
9. Supervises and administers assigned staff members and interns.
10. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the CoM.
Qualifications
Education
Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Political Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
University degree in the above fields with five years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
Strong communication skills including experience related to media and communication and to represent to media, general public and counterparts.
Knowledge of relevant Irish institutions in the field of media and communications and migration an asset
Previous work experience in the field of media/communications at national and international level Organizational skills including experience in the management of media projects
Excellent writing and reporting skills in English
Experience in standard web content management system (CMS), graphic design programmes and usage of social media
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
Experience in working in an international environment is an advantage.
Skills
Excellent writing and communication skills;
Excellent knowledge of MS Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a good knowledge of CMS systems, social media and Adobe Creative;
Ability to draft clear and concise reports and project documents.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
